 About Scott

In 1991, following a nearly fatal  appendix rupture, I found myself in the Quawitchta Mountains of Arkanasas.  For the purpose of a spiritual retreat.  During that week I became acquainted  with the Native Purification Ceremony, drumming around a fire, and quartz crystals.  Upon my return home, I made my first drum and started attending native purification lodge, the Inipi ceremony.  Before long, I was back to Arkansas for the purpose of digging Arkansas quartz crystals.  And that's how it all started.

Within a year, I had begun the study of the shamanic drumming journey and was still making some drums for people.  I had just gotten some Buffalo hides and I made a drum that was nothing like I had planned to do.  It was as if my hands were being guided in the construction of this drum.  This one turned out to be very good so I made more this way.  They had a great tone and durability and I was becoming known as a drum maker.

Yuwani is a Spirit Guide

I was kind of wanting a name for the drums I made and decided to do the drum journey to see if I could get a name for these drums I was making.  Something like, "Red Buffalo Drums", would be good, I thought.  But all I got was something that sounded like "y'wanee".

About two weeks later I was at the Inipi ceremony and there was an elder there from the reservation.  I was curious about this Yuwani thing and I had an opportunity to ask him about it.  He thought for a moment and he said in his native language "yuwani" is not a word.  But that the components of it would mean "to make" "life" or "to make live".  He went on to say that in his native culture, the drum was considered to have life.  That was too much synchronicity to ignore.  So I decided to honor it .  I named my little drum business "Yuwani Drums".

By now I had been to Arkansas on the first of many crystal digs.  And I was exhibiting my drums and crystals at the various faires and events in the midwest where I lived.  In 1998 I came to move to southwest New Mexico and an opportunity to travel around more.  I began exhibiting at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show.  My drums went international.  Here I became acquainted with the Quartz Crystals of Brazil.  Truly magnificent beings of light.

It is, for me, a remembrance.  The beat of the drums.  The spirit within the crystal.  Earth and sky.  I am an eternal being on an earth walk of spiritual evolution.  I came to experience my creation and to learn how to create.  These things, the drums and the crystals, earth and sky, help me to remember.

Colorado

In 2005 my sabbatical in the southwest had come to a conclusion.

I currently reside in the "front range" area of  Colorado.

May your walk, be in beauty.  Scott

PS

This is the "facilities" I worked out of [along with a few shade trees] when I lived in the southwest.

Affectionately referred to as the "Drum Shack."

This was the veiw.

Always in my heart.

I am very greatful for the time spent there.

Now I live at the base of another mountain.
